HOMEWORK TIPS ~ Establish a nightly routine that works for your family. For example: snack, homework, playtime, dinner, technology, read a book and bed time.
~ Provide a QUIET work area. ~ Encourage your child to read the directions & explain them to you. Clarify any misconceptions. ~ Teach responsibility & accountability. Have your child empty his/her backpack every night and give you important notes, etc.
NOTEWORTHY ~ Keep the lines of communications open with your child's teacher (notes, email, phone call). Parents who are involved, have a successful student.
~ Be positive about your child's progress. By focusing on the positives, your student will feel more secure.
~ Look through your child's papers regularly. When you show an interest in their school work, often the child works harder to succeed.
RECESS
Your child will be going outside for recess at least once a day. Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing for outside play. It is helpful if your child's initials or name are written inside of coats and boots. Students are not allowed to miss recess and stay inside unless a doctor's note has been provided (school policy).
TENNIS SHOES Please make sure that your child has comfortable shoes to wear to P.E. and on recess.
WINTER CLOTHING I strongly recommend that you label your child's boots and other clothing that could be misplaced while at school. In addition, send an extra pair of socks to school with your child (kept inside their backpack) incase snow/water seep into their boots. Children become frustrated when they return from recess and their socks are soaking wet.
LUNCH
Label your child's lunchbox
Please refer to the updated BAS guidelines for a visitor to enter our building.
SNACK Please make sure that your child is bringing healthyfoods. For example: fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, raisins, granola bars, squeeze applesauce, or yogurt. Second graders may become hungry a few times a day - feel free to send a few snacks each day. Children work best when they are fueled & ready to learn!
I strongly encourage you to send your child to school with a bottled water each day. Please avoid sending cookies, cupcakes, or others sweets for snack.
